Kiwi Fruit 🥝

🥝 is most often used in its food sense, to evoke this fruit appreciated for its tart taste and richness in vitamin C. It's used to talk about a balanced breakfast, a fruit salad, or a craving for freshness, in a register close to the strawberry's or the blueberry's.

The word "kiwi" also designates, outside any food context, a flightless bird native to New Zealand, which has become a strong national emblem of that country. By extension, "Kiwi" is also the familiar nickname given to New Zealanders themselves, a bit like other nationalities carry nicknames drawn from a local animal or symbol.

This homonymy between the fruit, the bird, and the national nickname, though, is rarely exploited in the everyday use of the 🥝 emoji, which continues very predominantly to designate the fruit itself in French conversations, for lack of a distinct emoji representing the bird of the same name.

It stays rarely used to evoke the bird or the national nickname of the same name, these uses staying reserved for an explicit context mentioning New Zealand.
